Urubu

My first visit to the Amazon River near Belem led to many great surprises. Wonderful markets full of exotic fruits, colorful colonial architecture along the causeway darkened with exhaust fumes, crafted wooden fish boats with fishermen taking their afternoon naps in hammocks and the URUBU! A large black bird eating the scraps from the fish boats and markets. At 6pm every evening the wind picks up on the river, and these black birds soar high into the sky to catch the warm evening winds. I finally found the translation for this bird - VULTURE!
